Crooked Disco Meets Project Jenny Project Jan

There is no denying the satisfaction of free drinks, good DJs and  live music.  Last Saturday at Public Assembly (in the space that used to be Galapagos) Project Jenny Project Jan hit the stage two hours later than expected but made up for it in sick dance tunes.  Jeremy Haines (vocals) and Sammy Rubin (master of electro beats, DJ) both hail from Brooklyn and are the duo that is Project Jenny Project Jan.  Their “Colors EP,” set to be released April 14th, has a very eclectic sound.  From reggae-tone to salsa,  “groovy” rap  to 90’s pop the album can seem some what schizophrenic in its music genre but if you are one of those people that “likes all kinds of music” then Project Jenny Project Jan is your jam.  The band closed down their set last saturday with “Brooklyn,” a show tune style track claiming “its always sunny in Brooklyn, without a cloud in the sky.”

Its Blitz!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ newest album Its Blitz!  hits the shelves today.  Prepare yourselves for a different kind of sound.  Karen O’s screaming does not make an appearance on the new album and the overall feel is less manic and more electro dance party.  Opening up with “Zero” the album kicks off with a hot, edgy track guaranteed to get you moving and will keep you on the move with “Heads Will Roll,” “Dull Life” and  “Dragon Queen.”  With softer ballads like “Runaway” and “Softshock” serving as the icing on this album’s cake, the band’s 3rd album is sure to be their most mature album, artistically, to date.  My personal favorite tune off It’s Blitz: “Runaway.”

Sean Bones

In Music on March 23, 2009 at 6:48 pm

sean-bonesSean Bones is the solo project of Sean Sullivan, the guitarist from the brooklyn band Sam Champion.  In the summer of 2008 he recorded the EP Easy Street  and since then has been recieved as a breath of fresh air aiding us all in our longing for summer.  Earfarm rated the four track release as one of last year’s top 8, noting it as an “upbeat ode to city living, loving, and chilling.”  His tracks are subtly catchy and without a doubt groovable, making it a definite must have for your recently added iTunes playlist.

Frenchkiss Records swept Sean Bones up into it’s arms and the group opened up for the label’s notorious Les Savy Fav at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple Friday March 13th.  The reggae infused pop numbers resonated with the crowd and the, ever so casual, dancing ensued.

Neil Young’s Back

Neil Young has a new album coming out this April entitled Fork In The Road.  To go along with the title, he shot two music videos on his own while driving.
